Claims Supervisor   

Description of Duties:

 

  • Provides claims oversight to team claim examiners, assigns claims, and provides claim-handling strategy to examiners
  • Provides oversight on existing claims
  • Assists examiners in handling claims
  • Assumes direct handling of complex claims
  • Reviews all closed claim files
  • Verifies identification of potential subrogation
  • Develops state specific reference materials
  • Trains team examiners on state specific rules, regulations and coverages
  • Establishes reserve authority levels for each examiner
  • Responsible for developing each member of the claims team
  • Monitors examiner workload
  • Communicates claim trends or issues with other departments
  • Ongoing communication with Team Leader by providing status updates of key claims information
  • Must be able to effectively manage a team of claims personnel

  • Must have strong supervisory skills
  •  Ability to interpret insurance contracts, medical reports, damage appraisals, lawsuits, etc.
  • Ability to evaluate bodily injury and property damage exposures and settlements
  • Ability to evaluate and communicate policy coverage issues
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Able to work quickly, independently, and work accurately with numbers and record documentation
  • Able to meet definite deadlines, deal with pressure situations, and prioritize work
  • Diplomacy and tact when dealing with policyholders, independent insurance adjusters, attorneys and PMC team members
  • Able to speak distinctly on the phone
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • The position requires extended periods of sitting; manual dexterity to operate office equipment including telephone, PC, computer terminal, copier, fax machine, printer and adding machine/calculator; visual ability to read small print in communications, policies and on the computer screen

Education and Experience:

 

4-year degree or equivalent desire 7- 10 years claims experience
